Hi all,

In addition to Gentoo, Debian and Ubuntu also have these same advantages, the difference being that you don't have to wait for things to recompile with those systems. Ubuntu differs from Debian in that Debian is supported by the community alone, while Ubuntu is Debian plus has a company supporting it as well.
I agree wholeheartedly! I have been using Ubuntu "Hoary" now for some time, and it's really amazing how many programs you can download or upgrade from the various repositories! All you need is an Internet connection. Prior to Ubuntu I also used Mandrake 10 for a while (and before that, SuSE 9.1), but Ubuntu is so user-friendly that I can really recommend it! I updated from Inkscape 0.30 to 0.41 via just one command line ('sudo apt-get update inkscape').
I admit that I'm still getting some error messages because I need to include some additional sources (which can be a bit confusing, but the forum http://www.ubuntuforums.org/ is great, and you usually get friendly & helpful replies).
I'm looking forward to v 0.42!

P.S.: BTW, can someone give me a clue on how to accomplish this effect: http://inkscape.sourceforge.net/screenshots/gallery/inkscape-0.37-linux-xmlE... I tried it using 'tile clones...' plus the XML editor, but to no avail! :-( So far, I can only imagine doing all of this by hand!
