I got that, but the problem is that they don't look like that. They look like ordinary buttons meant for navigation. My recommendation would be to make some minor changes in order to avoid such confusion (I gave a few examples, but I'm sure there are more ways).
I experienced the same initial confusion - as described by Jasper - the first time I visited the new site at http://dev.inkscape.org. Once you have realized what those 'buttons' do, it's ok - but it isn't very obvious at first glance and (IMHO) unexpected from the way those 'buttons' are currently styled (maybe the initial draft [1] which had them spanning the complete banner width would be more obvious?).

Thank you both for your input, I appreciate it. I'll go back to the cave to come up with something more intuitive. :-) I had initially considered having the slider autorun (5 seconds or more between transitions, with a pause if you hover) but not too sure if this might just be annoying... I also considered having the usual progression arrows on the sides that show up when you hover over the banner...
Perhaps removing the slider functionality and making the tabs/buttons simply clickable links as you suggested would be more suitable.
I saw a few concrete suggestions/wishes in some other mails, but I have no idea of how to add content. No need for a complete manual or something, but a few pointers would be nice. Am I supposed to check out the "code"? If so, what do I get and how do I edit it?
I'm not entirely sure about that to be honest (I'm just writing stuff directly in the mockups) - the best thing would probably be to get in touch with the development side (via #inkscape-web on irc.freenode.net, or email Ian Caldwell who's kinda co-ordinating the thing). They'll be able to point you in the right direction.
