Hi,
I'm a new user of Inkscape 0.44.1 as distributed with Debian Etch. I'm very impressed with the features it provides, but some basics are escaping me. I'm working with a postscript file, converted via
pstoedit -pta original.ps output.svg
I import output.svg into Inkscape with no problem, and the image displays the image and text labels exactly as it should.
I need to mark up the image with transparent boxes. I draw the boxes using the rectangle tool. However, I when I try to reselect them it gets very weird. Clicking on a rectangle actually selects a different rectangle, lower on the image than where the mouse is pointing. The other rectangle has a dotted outline (bounding box?) that is many times bigger than the rectangle itself.
I managed to fix this before by playing with the snapping options in document properties, but I am not able to repeat that early success. When I open the shapes tutorial I can draw and select boxes normally, and the dotted outlines appear to (almost) exactly match the outline of the rectangles themselves.
Please, what am I doing wrong? This is very frustrating, and I'm sure it's something really simple that I'm missing.
