What I'm still missing in Inkscape are some features included in 'Canvas', particularly the great gradient editor. One can apply gradients to strokes, or even beveled strokes.
Ink0.45 (at least) can apply gradients to strokes. I agree that the gradient editor is hard to use. Blender has a good example of an easy gradient editor.
