Thaking this in a slightly different direction, with the Inkscape currently in CVS you can 'fake' a drop shadow using two effects: "Dropshadow" and "Blur Edge". Here's a quick example of what can be done -- although it is still a little bit rough.
"Blur edge" doesn't seem to work for me. I see no difference however when I run it on an object.
Well, it is a bit rough. Blur Edge will only operate on paths, not groups or objects or anything like that. So you need to make sure that you've selected a path. I think that is the problems that many people are having. Please tell me how it goes -- this effect hasn't been widely tested.
I can't make this work. Here is the score for the three builds that I have to play with.
Standard in /usr/local/bin: - Grid No - Blur Edge No
Autopackage in /usr/bin: - Grid Yes - Blur Edge No
Win32: - Grid No - Blur Edge No
I don't see *.inx files being installed. Are the *.inx files for plugins stored inside of Inkscape?
