That's the first time I hear anyone complain about this. To me, it's a very useful visual feedback. When I have to work in another tool which does not do this, I can't stop thinking that something is broken.
I've heard complaints about this, actually -- but the complaint isn't really that the cursor changes, but rather that the hand cursor it changes to (depending on the user's cursor theme) is imprecise, without an obvious "hotspot".
Maybe a different hover cursor would be better? I'm not sure which one, though.
