Wouldn't the Mandrake/Mandriva RPM (inkscape-0.42.2-1mdk.i586.rpm) be a better option? I would try that first.

inkscape-0.42.2-1.static.i686.rpm was removed from SourceForge because it caused different problems. The autopackage should be better (inkscape-0.42.2.x86.package)

Upgrading glib2 to 2.8.x might also resolve the issue.
