[Inkscape-user] Selecting multpile objects

I am using Inkscape 0.39 on Mandrake 10.0. I have been trying to select multiple objects using Shift+click but it does not work. I click on one then shift+click on the next and it just selects the second object only.

What am I doing wrong?
