hello Hamom,

png format has alpha channel that defineing the transparency or the photo. if you import or open a png file to inkscape. the checkerboard just is the inkscape default display backgroud(because of the transparency of png file, the background showing). Ithinks it's not a problem.

if you don't want transparency in png file, you can click the right bottom "background color " in the export panel and set the "A" value to 100.
