You can use drag and drop between windows instead of copy and paste. You can do multiple-massive import of images in this way. Put the inkscape window under the file manager window, select files you want and drop into inkscape.

Don't forget you CAN do copy and paste between two windows of the same instance of Inkscape. I do this all the time. Start up by loading a template file, then use File > Open... to load a second file. You can now freely copy and paste between the two.
