You mean something like this file? The problem with this is that it's hard to keep the width of the lines contant. I'll keep it in mind and see if it could be usefull for what I'm trying to do. Thanks for your reply.

It's not possible as such in SVG (although you can have "disconnected" segments in one path, so you could go a long way towards faking it). And yes, at the very least I find it interesting :) But whether it's useful? For example, for the kind of pattern you want to create you would probably be better off using a path as "stroke" (so not a grid-like path with a stroke, but a path whose fill forms the "stroke", what you get when you use "Stroke to Path").
