I don't see a color palette on my window. Is it still there? (I'm studying tavmong's online manual-I love it).
Try the View menu, under "show/hide".
How do I make a customized color swatch?
Inkscape uses the GIMP palette format. The plain ASCII file is pretty simple, just the RGB value of the colour and a name. Look for existing *.gpl files (the ones that come with Inkscape are stored under /usr/share/inkscape/) and write your own in the same format.
