I ran across a simple but neat tutorial on gimptalk.com on how to do woven tribal artwork with GIMP. I've since adjusted the method for inkscape and put a short 5 step tutorial together on how to do the appropriate path manipulations. I would like to post this somewhere. I have tried to contact the original author "Clay Ogre" but have not received a reply. Would I be stepping on anyone's toes if I posted this? If not where could I post it? If so, I'll just keep it as a reference for myself.
