I am using SuSE 9.1 YaSt and trying to install inscape inkscape-0.41-1.static.i386.rpm or i386 rpm. both give me a dependence check on GTK2 saying its not installed.
That's because SuSE uses a different name for the package than other systems plus the SuSE gtk packages are very old. I suggest that you upgrade to 9.3.
Thanks for the quick response. I plan on upgrading to 9.3 as soon as I get a new disk drive and DVD Reader. My desktop is 5 years old but still performs good.
That's the problem ;-) If you feel adventurous and in the mood to spend a weekend, you can try to install "apt for suse" (google for it). Then, you can upgrade Gtk and a lot of other plus inkscape just by doing "apt install inkscape".
If you upgrade to 9.3, Inkscape 0.41 is already included, though.
I recieved this response to my question earlier this month and in checking I find YAST calls the package GTK2. Is it possible I need some of the additioanla packages installed like the GTK2-devel and GTK2-Spell?
