Unfortunately, Inkscape doesn't play nice with Mac OSX 10.4.3. It requests that you install something called X11 (a Mac download),
but >that software will not install because it is out of date vis-a- vis >10.4.3.
There is a newer version of Apple's X11 that comes with OS X Tiger. It is not installed by default though so your friend will have to put the install DVD in then open the 'Optional Installs' package (he'll probably have to scroll down to see it). The installation is pretty self-explanitory - X11 is under "Applications".
