Just thought I'd mention the Gimp 2 is awesome, and if you haven't tried it please do, you'll like it much better than the versions before 1.3.x!
As for vector graphics, Inkscape is really starting to kick ass, and I think in time it will become one of the best vector apps out there!
Also, not to nitpick, but Linux 2.6 has been out for a while now... I'm currently running Linux-2.6.3-rc1-mm1. Works great, btw!
