Hello Dwain, your best bet is to check the Wacom documentation over at the Linux Wacom project at http://linuxwacom.sf.net
There's a bunch of stuff in GTK that is actually made to interface with X11 input mechanisms (see attached image), other than activating the different devices in either window or screen modes, I usually don't tamper with the rest. And is not like you'll find much documentation about those either.
