If you're running *NIX and look at the file ~/.inkscape/preferences.xml in the group <group id="dialogs"> there are some groups with `state="1"` and `state="2"`
Those with `state="2"` are attached to the right, and those with `state="1"` are floating.
So, if you change them, you can control whether they float or not.
But before you start, do: `cp ~/.inkscape/preferences.xml ~/.inkscape/old-preferences.xml`
That way you have a copy in case you mess up.
