One word of warning is to be careful of the wacom bamboo, we've had a number of users reporting issues with that tablet. btw, I wouldnt say its off topic at all, very relevant question.

Hi Everyone
Sorry for the slightly off topic post. I wanted to purchase an entry level tablet. Does anyone know of one that is being sold in stores now that works well with Inkscape?
I bought an Intuos 3 6x8" recently, using it with Inkscape in Ubuntu linux 7.10. It seems to work well, although oddly enough I think it would work better with an Nvidia graphics card than my ATI graphics card. At least if you have multiple monitors. ATI's driver support for multiple monitors seems to be less refined than Nvidia's (having used Nvidia cards on other dual monitor linux machines). Of course it's an old ATI card (9800pro), maybe they do better on new ones. The issue is mapping screen geometry, which is important for the graphics tablet.
