It is often very useful to view the design without any distractions especially when you're showing it to other people or the client.
+1 (I wish that would also hide the top menu-bar as well. leaving only the canvas, and nothing else, not even the canvas borders.)
BTW, Currently I use F11 for that purpose, but it would be better if we had an extra mode (say Shift+F11) that leaves only the canvas without maximizing the window.
