Hey Alexandra,
This is one of the FAQs, actually. Not all font-types are
supported in Inkscape and there ar e a lot of technical explanations that I
don't understand. Usually, under windows, TTF are pretty safe, while other fonts
are not. But, even some TTF's don't work. So, see the Inkscape FAQ for a more
detailed explanation. :)
So,... what I've done a couple of times myself now is to
open the font in FontForge and convert it to a TTF, but that requires Linux.
(You could very well use a ubuntu life-cd for it, though, I think it has
FontForge by default).
But, would it be illigel if I did this conversion in
FontForge on Wingdings (1, 2, 3) and Webdings and put the converted font out on
the web to be used by Inkscapers? Does anybody know about
this?
Regards,
Maarten

While I have Symbol and Wingdings, for example, available in my other
applications, they don't show up in the list of available fonts on
Inkscape. Any idea why, and how to fix this?
Would be most grateful for a response to this address, if you've encountered
this problem before.
