Could you send me a default preferences.xml file. I lost mine and don't want to install Inkscape again. The message does not deseppears.

Most likely you rendered preferences.xml invalid XML by editing it. Please copy the example <group> entry EXACTLY, without touching anything else in preferences.xml.
