I think he might mean multiple workspaces. Here's a Novell article I hit on my first page of Google results http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/11690.html that explains their configuration of multiple workspaces.
Usually I use six workspaces displayed in two rows to get a 3x2 virtual desktop.
Then you just swap between with a keyboard sortcut. I've got 5 of them, assigned to F1-F5
How do you do that?
Hmm.... you might have to ask him. Personally since I'm more of a spacial thinker, I just use Ctrl-Alt-arrow (up, down, left or right) to move between them.
