[Inkscape-user] Effects/Generate from Path

Surprise, just installed .44, Jun 26 2006 build, using yum on my AMD FC5 box.

Question: What does the subject effects do on objects, type, vectors, bit maps?

The only thing that happens when I use either Blur or Extrude is overlays over the original. Am I missing something? What's the story here?
