Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the stand-alone version of Sozi a while back with little success. It may be better now, so I'll give it a shot.

Since I have old slides, I hacked together a script that does what I want. In case others are interested, the script is available at

an automated export tool which exports to video and to pdf for it:
