Sure, its no problem
In all honestly, its actually a MOSTLY open source animation toolkit. But still, with a few tweaks, it could be a fully all open source animation toolkit. Here is mine:
Main Workstation OS: Fedora 7 Media Pre-Production/Screenwriting - Celtx 3D Modeling/Animation/Rendering - Softimage XSI 2D Animation - Anime Studio (native Linux version) Image Editing - GIMP Vector Art - Inkscape NLE/Compositor - Blender Sequencer Audio Editing/Sequencing - Ardour MPEG2/H264 Encoding - FFMPEG and a front end i'm currently writing for it DVD Authoring - DVD Styler
You could easily turn XSI into Blender/Wings 3D, and Anime Studio into Synfig/Ktoon (however none of those projects are anywhere near useable my my standards)

Hey,
I hope you don't mind me contacting you personally, but the phrase "open source annimation kit" sounded to tempting... Wat are the other tools in your kit, if I may ask? Also, I came across a distribution called "MediaBuntu", it might be of interest to you, too, although I didn't try it myself.
Regards,
Maarten

Thanks guys
I switched to Fedora 7 (upon using it, feels more responsive, alot lighter in terms of useless packages installed), and it works fine now.
I guess it was some obscure or hidden setting in OpenSuSE's GNOME setup
Now I can continue to implement the rest of my open source animation toolkit!
