Hello
I am trying to use inkscape for text layout, which implies that I misuse layers as pages. However, I can only convert the visible space to a PDF file. It would be very helpful if inkscape could learn the concept of a page or if it could convert one page per layer to the PDF file (with possible selection of the to be converted layers).
I can hardly blame you for making the most out of what is currently available but it seems a lot like using a screwdriver to hammer a nail and I although I hope you do find a suitable script and temporary workaround I would very much hope no one would ship such a workaround as the inkscape default.
Have you considered using Scribus? The scribus and inkscape developers work together where possible. Scribus has pretty good SVG import too so you can do your page layout in a Desktop Publishing application and continue to do your drawing in a drawing application. http://scribus.net/
There was a provision for multipage SVG in the specifcations but it appears to have been removed from the draft specification but I'd be surprsied if it didn't make a reappearance at some point. The relevant request in the tracker can be found here: 1009291 Multiple Pages Support - SVG 1.2 Compliance http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1009291&gro...
