Far as I know it works on this list, but links to pics are better.

Here is a quick description of the text tool.
Open the Text dialogue. The apply button is greyed out.
When you select the Text tool, the button is still greyed out - because
nothing has changed.
Click the canvas, type some letters. Button is STILL grey.
Select some letters with the text cursor. Go to the Text dialogue, choose a
different font or size or weight -- NOW the apply button will change, because
now something is different. So, press it.
