[Inkscape-user] resolution issues

Hi Inkscapers!

I am fairly new to Inkskape and experiencing some difficulties with the way it handles units and resolution. I use IS to create graphics for web sites, so I have "Default export resolution" in Inkskape Preferences set to 72px. At first I always set my document units to pixels, but then I noticed that the exported bitmaps turned out to be smaller — pixel-wise that is. So I took to using points as document units after discovering that this resulted in the expected export sizes. Problem is, when I import a bitmap it turns out to be smaller in Inkskape…

What is one to do? Is there a way to set the document resolution?
