After you import your bitmap, go into the "Document Properties..." dialog and select "Fit Page to Selection".

After you annotate your image, you can export to PNG and it will be the same size as your original image.

It works ! It's like editing a bitmap with vector tools, a dream.

However check your Usenet client because it seems it doesn't properly handle replies. Your message is not linked to mine and its subject has been corrupted by special characters, there's a carriage return between "vector" and "objects".
