Attached is a 2nd file, Outset_Test_2, which has two objects which look exactly the same: the pink object was created with several path statements and has not yet been transformed into a single closed path via Ctrl-K, the green object is a single closed path created by one path statement.
'Ctrl+K' does not create closed paths, it adds the selected paths as sub-paths into one big path, not touching the node types nor adding connecting segments or joining coinciding nodes.
Use the node tool to join end/start-nodes of sub-paths or insert segments between unconnected sub-paths, and to remove redundant segments.
