You can try turning off the "snap to bounding box" option in Document Preferences.

The only issue with exported diagrams is that Inkscape doesn't respect enabled BCI in Freetype, so text with small font size (e.g. 6-11pt) doesn't look very nice. It was promised to be fixed some time later.
