Sugg:put options in main window
hi-ho I have an interface suggestion/request: put the options such as fill and stroke, font, font-size, etc in the main window, perhaps along the bottom edge, or in a control pane
I use inkscape frequently to create diagrams for my studies, particularily in biology. I feel I could do this much more quickly and efficiently if I didn't have to switch back and forth between dialog boxes.
here's a gimpy mockup i made real quick of one possible interface:

In CVS, this is already done for fill/stroke style. More on the way; I plan to do this for master opacity and stroke width. However not everything will be there; only the most important properties deserve a place in the main interface.

This is probably a FAQ but at which stage is styles support?
For diagrams, it would be better to have 3-4 styles for different things and a combobox in the main window to switch between them plus the ability to put the styles on keys (like Alt-F1 - Alt-F12).

Have you been mocking up the whole interface? Otherwise, how come you have such a nice OS X looking interface, with white background for all frames and bars and rounded buttons?
Have a look at my interface, much more austere :-(

i copied the aqua gtk theme from the gimp.app package into the inkscape.app resources folder. when I think about it, there should be a unified osx GTK distribution.. it would save the users several megabytes per app

Imendio is already working at native Gtk for Mac OS X (without X11 dependency)

Are you talking about this: http://gimpfoo.de/2005/10/06/an-early-glance-at-gimp-on-os-x/ ?

Yes, exactly

I assume you are talking about this folder: /Applications/Gimp.app/Contents/Resources/share/themes/Default/gtk-2.0
Do you put the gtk-2.0 folder into /Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources?
I've tried it, but it doesn't work, I'm still having the plain old interface.
Hervé
no, recreate the directory heirarchy in inkscape.app... poke around, you'll find it
