Hi, I tried changing the pref to Graphite and opened Inkscape for the first time. It starts up with a dark grey screen, with what appears to be a halftone screen, upon typing the Inkscape app opens. When I close Inkscape the grey screen reappears which I have to force quit to return to the OS.

OK. That sounds like the X11 app itself. Off hand I'm not sure what I did (if anything) to make it show up "rootless"
