Hi,

inkscape 0.48 is not responding for about a minute

- after startup - when saving to a new file name (Save As ...)

After the minute, everything works as espected.

any ideas?

This is with every simple file, it's not the complexity of the file. This happens even if I try to save a simple object. An no network activities (actually I don't even know which object would create network activity)

Are you using a windows machine that has your profile (my docments) on a network share? I hsbe found such a configuration when working on off the domain (like at home) as the save dialog uses registry values pointing to network locations that time out.

If your file is saved to a remote disk, then it uses the network to do so.

Also, any network activity may slow down your machine since it is servicing the network and not your application.

In my experience this is not the case.

In my corporate notebook computer "My Documents" is located on \somecorparateserver\share\profile\My Documents

When using Inkscape as soon as I do a File->Open ro File->Save As it kicks off a common dialog that be default tries to connect to My Documents, which it can't do if I am on a a different network (i.e at home or in a hotel). Inkscape hangs for 30+ seconds until the Windows netbios call times out, This is the case even if I am working with a locally stored file.

Hi,

yes this seems to be somehow similar here. In fact, when I disconnect all network drives, my problem is gone and incscape is fast. When I've some network drives connected, I've the problem posted in my first mail.

But: I'm not saving on network drives nor working on network drives with inkscape. I also checked the inkscape settings and all paths only point to the local drive.

Can any of the commenters in this thread confirm the findings in

Bug #703517 Inskscape slows down when an external drive is connected https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/703517

(possible trigger of the slow-down: the file '.recently-used.xbel' (shared with other GTK+ apps) storing the list of previously opened files - in Inkscape 0.48 the existence of every entry is checked before it is added to the 'File Open Recent...' list, and the path is used for the tooltip)
