Is it possible to cut and paste between different inkscape documents?

I thought you could, provided you had the separate instances of Inkscape open prior to doing the cut/paste. But now I've just tried exactly that and it doesn't seem to work.
I don't use cut and paste normally, so maybe I'm just dreaming that it worked before. ;)

I got what I wanted, but I had to import the entire inkscape file and cut away the rest. If I do a bunch of imports, will they update if I modify the original file?

I'm not sure you can achieve that kind of embedded linking back to the original file like you're asking. That said, I don't normally do this type of thing. There might be someone a little (or a lot) more knowledgable than me who might have a more definitive answer.

The secret is that you need different windows in the *same* instance of Inkscape.
For example, if you have a file open, use that file's menu to open the second file and you get a second window in the same instance.

Is there any time frame on when this will be fixed? I can open two separate Open Office files by double-clicking on each, copying content from one and pasting it into another. I can also do this in AbiWord and KOffice. In fact Inkscape is the only major application I use where I CAN'T do this. I know it doesn't seem like that big a deal but there's been a bug open on this for years.

believe its fixed in SVN already.
