jpeg is a photo image compressing format. png is a graphic image compressing format. mng is a graphic animation format. They do not have the same purpose.

Additionally, png images were found on 4% of the web sites 3 years ago, and is now use by 6% of the web sites. Gif is used by more than 60% of the web, while jpeg has more than 50% of web using it. The "dodo" is doing fine. It is also the de-facto standard for digital still cameras.
