Printing fails with error message printed to paper.
Hello,
as my printer works in all other applications, I don't really thing, that the problem is in my printer setup or the printer driver.
If I try to print from Inkscape (0.48), then anything, I get, is a paper with this line on it:
**** Unable to open the initial device, quitting.
I tried with GIMP (seems to have the same printing dialog) and there printing works well.
To get something printed from Inkscape, I have to print to PDF first, then open this PDF in okular and print it from there to my printer. Pretty silly workaround. Would be nice if someone could help me to resolve this issue...

Manuel, which linux distro & how did you install 0.48?
I've no printing issues on Ubuntu (10.10) using Tobias Wolf's PPA:
$ apt-cache policy inkscape inkscape: Installed: 0.49-pre-bzr9906-0ubuntu0ppa1 Candidate: 0.49-pre-bzr9906-0ubuntu0ppa1 Version table: *** 0.49-pre-bzr9906-0ubuntu0ppa1 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/towolf/ppa/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 0.48.0-1ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages
https://launchpad.net/~towolf/+archive/ppa Note: I have to use the ppa as this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/627134 is not fixed in Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick). It is fixed in 11.04 (Natty Alpha) - but 11.04 is completly unusable for me.

Slackware 13.1
Here you'll find the build script for Slackware: http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.1/graphics/inkscape/ Direct link to script: http://slackbuilds.org/slackbuilds/13.1/graphics/inkscape/inkscape.SlackBuil...
IMHO this documents pretty well how I compiled, as anything is written down in this script.
