bug in DXF output - latest release
release 0.47 apparently has broken saving a file as DXF format... Any ideas what happened?
Jack
Hi Aaron,
I'm a bit at a loss here -- I'm trying to support some craft cutter types who reported this problem and at the moment I'm at another location without all the tools I need to run this down. I have several releases of Inkscape, but no good way to validate the DXF file created by 0.47 - I'll attach a couple of files like they were working with - maybe you can verify that the DXF is correct.
Thanks, Jack

Do you get an error message?

I think we're both going to have a mighty difficult time helping unless we have more specific information. What is causing the user to report that saving as DXF is broken? Are they getting an error in Inkscape when creating the file? Are they getting an error in another app when reading the file? I opened the flourish.dxf file in a text editor here and it does look like a reasonable DXF file to me. I'd have to install some CAD app to test it. I recall that some enhancements were made to the DXF output during the last dev cycle that allow the DXF files to be read in some software packages that weren't supported previously. I haven't heard any reports yet of the DXF files being less compatible than before. I really think we need just a bit more information before we can even begin to start looking into the problem.

Qcad opens your attached DXF file with no issues. It appears identical to the attached SVG.

Thanks Aaron,
I've asked for more information - I may have jumped too soon filing a bug report, but one of the people who reported problems with "the latest release" is a pretty knowledgeable Inkscape user. I'll investigate it further in a few days when I get to where I have better equipment and a wider range of software to test with.

Does the bug report you filed in launchpad include more complete information? Could you provide a link to the report?
