I need to convert Inkscape 'SVG' files to Adobe Illustrator 'AI'. Is
there a utility available that will accomplish this? I checked Google & the list archives, but to no avail! :-(
Illustrator can load EPS. Exporting to EPS may work for you, though it loses gradients and transparency.
I just busted open Illustrator 10 and it opened an Inkscape SVG file ok. The results weren't perfect though. If you have any raster image within the SVG that was resized in inkscape, it defaults back to the original size in Illustrator. Also, it totally ditches any transparencies (whether on the object level or within a color/gradient). Luckily it still keeps the gradients as they are though.
So you may just want to try and open directly in Illustrator if you or the person you're sending it to have a relatively recent version.
Alas, I don't have Illustrator available. I just need to *convert* SVG to the Illustrator file format, since the printer doesn't accept SVGs. I checked Inkscape, but my version (0.37) doesn't have an option "Export to EPS", either. I am using SuSE Linux 9.1.

Hey Claus. I'm not using SuSE, so I'm not sure how easy this is to set up there. I've had good luck using a "print to PDF" type thing in Linux. If you're able to do that, I would imagine any printer will accept PDF's these days. Just a thought. :-)

I suspect your PSV will accept or even prefer PostScript over PDF. This avoids the PS to PDF conversion that many UNIX print systems do to produce PDF output.
