Is there a tutorial on how to make distressed graphics (for shirt designs)?
I would say that my first thing to try would be to play around with the settings in Effects>Modify Path>Fractalize and see if that does kinda what you want. If it gets too "messy", then simplify the path with Path>Simplify (ctrl-l)

You may be able to achieve a distressed look by following the rubber stamp tutorial by Nicu.

Yeah, Nicu has a nice tut.
One other thing you might want to try is finding a bitmap/png of something with a lot of texture like concrete or a brick wall. Use potrace on it in a black and white high contrast mode to generate the scribbles of Nicu's tut. You can really get some interesting effects this way but it depends on the original bitmap/png and how much you're will to fiddle with potrace.
