How to convert text in svg file
Hi,
I convert the attached svg file to the attached pdf file without selecting the option "text to path". The resulted pdf file doesn't have the text "O". Do you know what is wrong?
Thanks, Peng

Hi,
I convert the attached svg file to the attached pdf file without selecting the option "text to path".
The PDF exporter currently (Inkcape 0.44 if I recall correctly) includes an automatic conversion of "Text to Path" to ensure your printout looks like it does on screen even if the necessary fonts are not available at the time of printing. (More accurately the PDF exporter does not yet include text important and the developers were persuaded that converting text to paths was a hell of a lot better than doing nothing which would result in data loss and PDF files which did not even look like the SVG.)
The resulted pdf file doesn't have the text "O". Do you know what is wrong?
Besides having high expectations of a work in progress you have not done anything wrong. Grab a nightly build of inkscape and in return for helping test things out and reporting bugs you will get to see those improvements in PDF even sooner.
Hope that helps.

I want to use inkscape convert svg file to eps file then include the eps file in latex file, I want make sure the font in the eps file is the same as the one used in the main text. Is there currently any walkaround?
Thanks, Peng

Yes, there is the following one: select in Inscape the same font that you intend to use for your LaTeX document.

Of course, if I only use a fixed LaTeX template, I can set the font in svg file only once and use it forever.
But I might have to use the svg file different templates, each LaTeX template use different font. Then I have to change the svg file for each of them, which is very inconvenient. I'm looking for some better method to use svg file with LaTeX. Do you have one?
Thanks, Peng

Peng,
There is a quick way to change the font used by a SVG picture: open the SVG file with a text editor and with "find/replace" change the name of the used font. For instance, one can replace "Times New Roman" with "cmr10" only by opening the SVG with a text editor and replacing every occurrence of "Times New Roman" with "cmr10".
