I need letter-spacing a lot. How do you do that in inkscape? For the moment I always have to use other programs for that.

Letterspacing is easy in Inkscape, start some text, and then use the arrow keys while holding down alt to get the kerning you want.
For some reason, this only works for text that is not in a text area.

Thank you a lot. I didn't know, it was possible this simple way.
Perhaps it would be good to find a hint in the fonts-dialog.

one word of warning about letter-spacing though, inkscape doesn't handle the em unit properly as this test shows:
