Re: [Inkscape-user] Urgent help needed + Erase possible?
It's not a SVG file, it was the PNG file I just imported. But I got that part figured out.. (Exporting the png first, did the trick)
Now the other problem I am having it. (And I don't know if that's possible or not)
If I import a PNG image. Can I erase parts of it?
I tried adding a square on top to hide it, but that doesn't work, if I put an effect over it.
So I need to delete part of the png, and keep the background Transparent. Is that possible ?
Thank you

If we could see your SVG file, we could make suggestions. Otherwise, you will need to open alvinpenner's SVG file and compare it to your own. When your blue object is created like his, 2 closed paths, combined, it will work.
We can't look at your PNG image, and know how it's created in Inkscape, as a vector object.

Is this what you are looking for? Attached is an svg file with a single path object in it. The path object has an irregularly shaped hole in the middle. You can edit the hole by using the node tool F2. irregular.svg http://inkscape.13.x6.nabble.com/file/n4973295/irregular.svg

Aah . makes sense now
So I need to convert it to Vector first. Is that done with Object to Path ?
And I did not post the image here before, so you must have seen it on a forum. I am working in Fusion. (Clickteam)
It is currently in my game "Bouncing Nightmare" But redoing all the graphics, since I found Inkscape .

Here is an Image I made in Inkscape.
As you can see it's not transparent, since I put white boxes on top of it, from what needs to be transparent.
What steps to I need to take to make the top and the inner part of that transparent?
Thanks

You need to make a very simple Inkscape drawing, from scratch, to find the answer experimentally. Also, with a symptom description, get rid of articles like "it" and replace them with exact nouns, so that people know *exactly* what you're saying. And the reason I waited so long to jump in was the word "Urgent" in the subject: It's urgent to you, nobody else.
Anyway, looking at the whole thread, it looks to me like you were trying to make an interior part of an object transparent by putting another object in front of it, in a "transparent color". You can't do that in Inkscape: Any nontransparent content in a spot makes that spot nontransparent.
In this case, the solution is to draw the outer part, draw the inner part (that should be transparent) as a second object, select both, and choose path->difference from the menu. Now you have a single object with a hole in it, and that hole is transparent just like parts of the .svg that host no objects. An example, that you can disect, is attached to this email.
If you want a transparent part to overwrite multiple objects, that's much more difficult, and I might suggest just painting the "hole" part in the same color as whatever hosts the graphic (white if your website background is white, green if it's green, etc).

Steve Litt * http://www.troubleshooters.com/ Troubleshooting Training * Human Performance
Yes, I agree wit SteveT. It seems you are trying to run (using Filters) before you have learned to walk (drawing the basic vector object first).
Both his and alvinpinner's files show examples of what you need to achieve. You can do that with the Pen/Bezier tool. For the blue one, I would suggest using Snapping and a Grid.
Snapping: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Snapping.html Grids: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Snapping.html#Snapping-Grid Pen/Bezier tool: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-Creating.html#Paths-Bezie...
(Note that the manual doesn't seem to have been updated with info new in version 0.91 yet. Or at least not completely. For the most part, you should be ok, but if you run into trouble with info in the manual, please feel free to ask us about it :-))
When snapping is set up properly, you can place the nodes (using Pen tool) close to a grid intersection, and Inkscape will snap it to the intersection. This way, you can achieve nice, perfect, 90 degree angles.
For the green one, only the outer part ("frame") could be made with snapping and a grid, because of course you can draw the ellipse with the Ellipse tool.
Once you draw the inner closed path and the outer closed path, select them both, and do Path menu > Combine.
Or, there are other ways to achieve what you want. Please see FAQ #B.5. https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#How_to_make_a_hole_in_a_solid_object,_lik....
Then after you have your basic objects created, you can apply color and filters. The transparency will have been created automatically, as a by-product of drawing the vector paths correctly first!
Before you delete or remove the filter (because I remember I explained to you how to tweak a filter, and the file with green objects looks like you're using the same filter, and you certainly don't want to accidentally lose it), be sure to save the custom filter, like this. Draw a random circle or square and apply the color and the filter to it, and don't delete that object. That way, the custom filter will be saved. Otherwise, if you delete all the objects with the custom filter, you *might* have to re-create the custom filter that you made earlier.
By the word "urgent" I guess that means you don't have time to follow any tutorials, or spend much time learning how to use Inkscape, before approaching this project. Nevertheless, that's exactly what I would suggest, if you want reasonably good results. I could suggest some tutorials, if you like.

Here is an Image I made in Inkscape.
As you can see it's not transparent, since I put white boxes on top of it, from what needs to be transparent.
What steps to I need to take to make the top and the inner part of that transparent?
Thanks

Being a PNG explains why the filter affected the whole thing, and why it only affects the blue part in alvinpenner's file (because it's a vector image in his file).
Didn't you ask about how to draw that image in an earlier message to the mailing list? Or did I see it in a forum? I've seen that image somewhere recently....
Inkscape cannot edit any image in a raster format (and PNG is a raster format) except for the possible exception of altering the colors (using filters or extensions).....and clipping.
What part of that image do you want to erase? The middle white part? It won't be possible to do that with Inkscape, without converting it to vector.
It could be done with a raster editor, such as GIMP, though.

Oh I see now..
Yes, yours stays clear once I put like Bloom over it.
How can I do that with the help1 file ?

Is this what you are looking for? Attached is an svg file with a single path object in it. The path object has an irregularly shaped hole in the middle. You can edit the hole by using the node tool F2. irregular.svg http://inkscape.13.x6.nabble.com/file/n4973295/irregular.svg
