Hi,
recently there has been some discussion about a forum <-> mailing list interface on this list: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=14031338. have
I am using RForum (http://rforum.andreas-s.net) for various Ruby-related mailing lists on http://www.ruby-forum.com, and have received a lot of positive feedback. I'm planning to extend the site to include other mailing lists, and I have offered Bryce to create a forum that mirrors the inkscape-user list. It will show up on ruby-forum.com for now, but in the future it will be possible to give it its own subdomain where only the inkscape-user forum will be displayed (e.g. forum.inkscape.org).
What do you think?

FYI, there is a web interface through gmane.org that probably would meet your need/desire. This message was posted using that interface, in fact.

Interesting, I didn't know the web interface allowed posting. I don't like the Gmane interface, though. It's a bit similar to reading the list with a mail reader, but it feels awkward if you're used to forums.

I find this is the case actually with most web-based forums I've tried - I mainly use gmane's NNTP interface, which I find to be the most convenient way to handle this type of discussion. But then again, I'm used to using NNTP for forum-like discussions.

Hey-ho,
Anyone got any glass-buttons in SVG, I had a go based on some icons I found, but am not particularly happy with it. It's doesn't look 'round' or 'glass' enough.
It uses the 'webdings' font to put a valentine-esque heart into the middle. Is there any way to convert font elements like this into a path?
It's attached, my apologies if attachments (less than 4k) are inappropriate for this list.
cheers, -kt

I've been using the Gmane interface too, both for reading and posting, and would much prefer a real forum-like interface, such as the Open Source phpBB: http://www.phpbb.com/

That's what I am offering. It's not phpBB, but it has a similar user interface.
Since the list admin has agreed, and there seems to be *some* interest, I'm just going to set it up. If it is accepted, fine, if nobody wants to use it I can close it again and nobody was hurt.
