Thanks for the suggestion Lars. This worked. I upgraded to 0.44.1 for another reason and found the PDF creation to be much better than 0.42.2. With the new version I don't have to convert to paths.

If you want to be sure that the fonts look the same on every machine/platform, convert them to paths when exporting to pdf.
