Export bitmap function stops at around 900KB, instead of exporting the entire 5MB svg graphic file onto my desktop.
Anyone know how I can keep the process from stopping when it's only about 20% done?? I have a PowerBook G4 with a 512MB RAM card (original equipment).
I tried upgrading the RAM to 1GB but that didn't work any better.? I want to eventually translate my Inkscape svg file into jpeg format so I can get the thing printed at imagestation.com.
Jeff

It should not hang and 512 MB should be OK for that. It would help to know what your file looks like in order to guess where the problem should be. Can you post it somewhere on the internet? (you cannot attach such a large file to an email to this list). In addition, which version of Inkscap are you using? on which operating system (Panther, Tiger)?

Incidentally, if you want your work to be printed you should consider producing a PDF and not a JPEG, or at least keep the PNG INkscape produces instead of converting it to JPEG. JPEG is good for digital photographs and that's about it, for the rest, PNG is better (does not loose quality when compressing the image) and PDF is probably even more adapted since it is a vector format, like SVG.

I had a similar problem in my Powerbook, but I have noticed that it would hapen only if there were blur effects. When I switch off the blur FX, the PNG is created with no problem. Last time this happened with one of my students, I solved the problem by erasing the part that had the blur and then just painting it in GIMP and applying a Gaussian blur, then joining the two parts in two layers. But that was a very simple image...

For me if there is blur and gradients it seems that export don't work but in fact it is and take long time to export. This image http:// www.deviantart.com/deviation/56995140/ take about 20 minutes to export as png on my G4 OSX 10.4.10 1GbRAM. The true size is 1253x1761 150ppx.

Yeah, I reported long ago the same huge performance problem when using *excessive* amounts of blur (in my case on X86).
with one of my students, I solved the problem by erasing the part that had the blur and then just painting it in GIMP and applying a Gaussian blur, then joining the two parts in two layers. But that was a very simple image...
I solved it in a similar way: leave the blur on, save as SVG, import the SVG in GIMP and export as PNG from there
Hm... Does GIMP display SVG images just like inside Inkscape? I used the method I said because I thought the two apps were using different renderers. Aren't they?
