i'm here to inform you about the inkscape gallery's two days in the "official world"... I didnt' receive feedback about my previous mail, but i didn't ask for this, i was only giving news indeed.
Now i would like the inkscape user's list to come back talking about inkscape gallery (i will label it just IG starting from now...). I learned so much in the few days in this list and i think the improvements we provided are mostly related to the speeches we had here and i would like to thank you again, even if i cannot do this for each user personally, this is my way to tell how precious was your help.
But this is done, we're online now and we have to debate about the present and the future of IG... I would like to see many of you posting drawings, cause we're registering many visitors from all the world and we are really happy about this, but we have still a few (i'm giving a special thank to those ones...)users and drawings on the website. I mean, i know i have to be patient...nothing happens just in one day, but i'd like to involve many of you in this moment, because we have to start thinking about the future of IG and we'd like this list, and anyone interested in, to have a leading role in the development. As you may know we are a small company and i love to say that this is just one of the opensource project we are planning... but obviously, we can't do this without help, and mainly this is not a closed project, this is a work done in the inkscape and opensource software growing purpose. And more, this is done to give the best place to share knowledge, drawing skills, tricks, projects for everyone who uses inkscape.
IG is just at the beginning , i keep working adding features, (see this: http://inkscapegallery.net/en/node/142 for the comment notification feature) and fixing some stuffs, trying to enhance IG knowledge and google visibility. We could imagine many improvements, now we have two test environments, and someone already made something.
Patrick wrote the code for the licenses validation that is another important improvement in IG and i like to thank him in this list, 'cause he's young but really skilled and he deserves our congratulations.
We bought the .com, .it and .org inkscapegallery domains too, and they will work in one or maybe two days.
So, i will like you to be the leader in the inkscapegallery growing process and in its future development. My work will be the organization, maybe the supervision (i'm still trying to figure out why didn't i seriously study english...) but you will be the one in charge...if you'd like to. Thanks, Da. http://inkscapegallery.net

Great effort, but one thing bugged me right away on first scanning the site: The "Inkscape Gallery User's Guide" as a downloadable PDF. No. You are running an online website. Your help/FAQ/user's guide should also be online, built right into your website.
A downloadable PDF should be an available option (maybe) but certainly not the first choice for providing users with information...
Brian.

Brian, i agree with you. But i invite you to take a longer tour in inkscape gallery to see that there's already what you're suggesting me to do. The inkscape gallery website is full of help tips and you have a detailed explanation in the most delicate operation you do in IG that is the image publishing stuff. There is a f.a.q page too, that is linked in the menu at the bottom of the page and in your personal menu when you log in. I guess you didn't notice it, indeed it is not complete and we're going (with your help, i hope...) to update giving useful informations. You find it here: http://www.inkscapegallery.net/en/faq
The "inkscape gallery user's guide" is meant to do something different, i don't know if you downloaded the pdf, at last, but it is an IG overall presentation: you have technical explanations, the features listing, credits and then you have a deep look in some of the website sections like the menus, quickstart, artists and more, with snapshots and some text. This is not meant to be embedded in a website, even if i'm planning to make a video to show a "demo" of the website and i will embed this eventually...
I think you're right when you say that a pdf it's not the first choice to provide information, and nobody thought to use it in this way...It is something more, i did it to give you a magnifying glass to see inkscape gallery deeply and to show what the IG project is, and what IG can do. It is made with scribus and that is another "value", the icing on the cake (...don't beat me for this :-) ) I give you the file address again, in case you'd like to see it: http://inkscapegallery.net/files/inkscapegallery.pdf
Thank you, Da. http://inkscapegallery.net
