i have been attempting to 'unstack' items returned from potrace. since i often have many groups stacked as a result of multiple scan passes, it can get difficult to manage them. I attempted to use 'export groups as PNG' but nothing happens.
anyone have any idea how i can efficiently separate a deep stack of groups?

Under the Object menu there are a couple options. In the Align and Distribute dialog you can use "Remove Overlaps" to move all of the groups apart so none are overlapping. Or use the Grid Arrange dialog to distribute all selected groups into a grid arrangement.
If you actually want to separate each group into its own document, maybe someone else will have an idea of how to automate that. The best I can think of is use one of the above methods to separate the groups in the main document, then copy and paste each group into its own. With a lot of groups, that would be pretty tedious.
