Hi,
I mostly use the newest builds from inkscape.modevia.com/win32/ For some time now I'm not able to import JPGs bigger than 30 kb into Inkscape. I first have to save them as PNGs, then I can import the images.
The last build with which the JPG-import worked normally, was 19770 from august 30.
Is this a known thing, or is it a misbehaviour just on my machine?
Regards, Hago

I would suggest filing a bug report at https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape , since this is not the first time that this particular crash has occurred

I don't get any message, it just doesn't work. When I try to import nothing happens at all.

Hello,
This behaviour has already been reported to the inkscape-devel mailing list on Sept. 6th, 2008.
Here is a copy of the thread:

Hello,
The latest win32 build from modevia: http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/Inkscape19808-0809060128.7z crashes when you try to import either a jpg or a gif file. A png is imported fine.
OS: Windows 2000 SP4
Steps to reproduce:
- Launch Inkscape (create a new empty document)
- Select Import from the menu
- The standard Windows dialog opens
- Click on a jpg or gif file name
Result: Message. Runtime error, Inkscape encountered an error and will now close (or something) Crash.
If you already have an open document opened with stuff in it, the import dialog doesn't make Inkscape crash, but it does nothing.
I tried it, and the same happens here. Here is the backtrace I was able to get.
Load() seems to work. But maybe the native preview code is having trouble with the 2.14 API.

Hi Alvin,:
running Win32 Inkscape from Sept16, svn19853, when I load a jpg file of about 100K or so I get the DOS exit message : terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Gdk::PixbufError'
I don't get any message, it just doesn't work. When I try to import nothing happens at all.
So there is only a few I can report - but I'll try.
